In a British cemetery ……..
Pause my friend, as you walk by
As you are now, so once was I
As I am now so will you be
Prepare my friend, to follow me
A visitor had added;
To follow you is not my intent
Until I know which way you went
Destiny is determined not by chances
but by choices. ~ Anonymous.
I came across the above some years back when I visited a friend in Australia.
Many of us deem life as a rat race. As a matter of fact, I think life is like a race. But be mindful, there are many different races. If you happen to be in the wrong race of life, you will feel disillusioned at the end. Even if it might be exhilarating and exciting at the moment.
Have a great day ahead. !!!
Awesome as always!
Michael, you’re absolutely right in knowing and being a part of the right race. It’s not just the finish line we have to cross, but the reward at the end. Will it be a trophy or a crown? One will sit on a shelf, the other will give entrance to a kingdom. Something to think about.
Welcome back and “Thank You” for your valued comment Wayne. In our world today, there are many false races on offer. Many of them will fizzle out in great disappointment. To get on with the race that you have just mentioned, it has everything to do with ultimate reality. My Warmest Wishes as you continue your run every day !!!
Good stuff Michael. Maybe there are rats around us, God forbid we become one. You are spot on
Indeed, words to take to heart! If only we could instantly develop the wisdom to help us select the right race! That said, I think all races, won or lost, add to the character of life.
Wonderful blog! No rat race, this… a cosmic carousel. But you knew that…
Thank you Michael, how true that we need to run the right race or else we will get weary and never reach the destination. There is also the danger of getting sidetracked when we look at people and not Jesus.
Very good & profound poem! Your follow-on hit the nail on the head. Too many races, so little time…perhaps if we would only take our time with respect to our choices!
true so true because our destiny determined depends on our choice….
I truly laughed out loud when I read the reply to the cemetery prose. How very true! : )
I like this. ‘Only dead fish go with the flow’. We may end up dead, but how we react to this fact is up to us. Quite existentialist.
Aristotle said that the good life is measured over a lifetime. I think there’s merit in this, and we shouldn’t ignore its significance. Even our daily activities, how we relate to strangers on the street, are part of the ‘race’ that you mention. It’s easy to forget that.
What a great turn on words and therefore persception. Thank you, Michael.
