Why Am I Not Achieving My Dream?

A fortnight ago, I was following-up with a small group on the progress of their dreams – goals, aspirations, or the things they plan to achieve within the next three to five years. Except for two, everyone seems to be progressing well with their dreams.

“Why am I not achieving my dreams?” George asked. While Henry was seen nodding his head in agreement.

Basically, when we decide to pursue a dream, it means that we are committed to work on it. We are ready to invest at least some of our time and effort to work on that dream until it become a reality one day. So after obtaining more input and clarification from the two, I shared the following ………………………

Ben and Jim after due diligence, decide to invest their entire savings into a fund with a target of achieving a reasonable return of their investment after five years. After six months into their investment, both watched the market taking a sharp and drastic fall, then remained under for many, many weeks.

Like what most people would have done under such circumstances, Ben and Jim reacted with panic especially when they saw how other markets react from one negative event to another. Ben was uncomfortable and sought the opinion of those around him and finally decide to sell off his investment immediately to cut off any further potential loss.

Jim on the other hand, after having many sleepless nights and severe pressure from his loved ones, finally gathered them and said, “I had done my due diligence. I decide to stick with my investment with the expectation of a reasonable return of my investment intact. No jitters is going to frighten me.”

After a long period of ups and downs, the market finally found its balance and was back to normal. Then posting hefty gains once again. After a while, Jim saw the opportunity to cash out when his investment finally gave him his expected returns. And he laughed all the way to the bank.

I believe when it comes to realizing our dreams, it is very much the same as any investment we make. Those who are focused and disciplined will most likely see their dreams realized eventually. While those who are too sensitive to the criticism, negative feedback or opinions of others, or when faced with temporary setbacks or minor bumps, are so ready to drop their dream and so forth, will consequenty end up like Ben, getting nowhere in life because of his flip flops.

I believe; “Investment Make, Investors Don’t.” Please don’t misunderstand me, investment here means you are willing to invest your time and effort to progressively realize the worthy dreams and goals that you set for yourself. Are you ready to unpack the dreams you packed away, now that you understand why some are not achieving their dreams?

More importantly, are you ready to ask God to rekindle those dreams you have in your heart and mind today? Because the good news I have for you today is,  “God wants you to do big things and new things in your life. He want you to be constantly increasing and to rise to new heights in your life.”

Well said and wisdom is a gift you share quite well… I agree God wants us to have big dreams and be successful. It took Moses many years to see his come true.

Awesome words for encouragement my friend. Many can even claim (they passed from this life before seeing their works’ fruit) from somewhere beyond our existence, everything panned out just perfectly in the end. Thanks for these wonderful words and God bless.

Hi Mike, thanks for sharing, no matter what we do the secret lies in consistency. I once heard a remark made on the scripture “when you have done all to stand, stand” the question was how long do I have to stand and the answer to to that was if you are willing to stand forever it won’t take long. Have a happy day my friend and keep up the good work.

  7. Loved this, and so real …. too many people spend more time complaining about what they haven’t achieved instead of putting that effort into actively working towards that achievement.

  8. What an uplifting post! Well said. Thank you.

While I’ve not achieved my dreams, other things took priority.
The dreams have not died – their are just sleeping (resting) until
the right time arises again. That God tells me it’s OK to do so…
I guess He has always know when things are to be done.
Nice post – thanks for the kick.
My Time may be closer than I thought!

  11. Thank you for sharing this…it helped me today…thank you and God Bless.

  12. Sensitivity to criticism I can well relate to. It used to keep me from expressing, truly expressing, who and what I was. Now I LISTEN to criticism when it comes, and render what is useful, skimming that part off the top, where I can benefit from its guidance. I no longer grant it the power to determine my truth – rather I let it inform my direction.

Okay. Fodder for another blog post, perhaps! Thanks for the post, Michael.

Great Post! We can gleam much from God’s Word as given to us through the Holy Bible. God says he wants us to prosper and that he has set before us an open door that no one can shut. God wants us to have an abundant fruitful life right here on earth. We only need to seize the moment and the opportunity by moving forward in action.

Not sure if this is the post you meant…I haven’t found ‘Accomplishing…’ yet but this one is right on spot for me. I am learning to do just what it is that you are teaching here. I love your pragmatic analogical approach to understanding and applying the Laws of Life…it is a mathematical Law and you can’t fudge the numbers (so to speak) when you are aiming for truly accurate results. Thank you so much, Michael. 😉 Zor’ra
