My Child,
When I grow old, I hope you understand and have patience with me.
In case, i break a plate, or spill soup on the table because I’m losing my eye sight.
I hope you don’t yell at me.
Older people are sensitive , always having self-pity when you yell.
When my hearing gets worse and I can’t hear, what you’re saying.
I hope you don’t call me, “Deaf.”
Please repeat what you said, or write it down.
I’m sorry, my child.
I’m getting older.
When my knees get weaker, I hope you have the patience to help me get up.
Like how I used to help you while you were little, learning to walk.
Please bear with me.
When I keep repeating myself like a broken record,
I hope you just keep listening to me.
Please don’t make fun of me or, get sick of listening to me.
Do you remember when you were little and wanted a balloon?
You repeated yourself over and over, until you got what you wanted.
Please also pardon my smell.
I smell like an old person.
Please don’t force me to shower. My body is weak. Old people get sick easily when they’re cold.
I hope I don’t gross you out.
Do you remember, when you were little?
I used to chase you around because you didn’t want to shower.
I hope you can be patient with me, when I’m always cranky. Its all part of getting old.
You’ll understand when you’re older and if you have spare time, I hope we can talk, even for a few minutes.
I’m always by myself all the time, and have no one to talk to.
I know you’re busy with work.
Even if you’re not interested with my stories, please have time for me.
Do you remember, when you were little?
I used to listen to your stories about your teddy bear.
When the time comes and I get bedridden, I hope you have the patience to take care of me.
I’m sorry.
If I wet the bed or make a mess
I hope you have the patience to take care of me during the last few moments of my life.
I’m not going to last much longer, anyway when the time of my death comes, “I hope you hold my hand and give me the strength to face death and don’t worry.
When I finally meet our Creator ………………..
I’ll whisper in His ear ………………….. to bless you because you loved your mom and dad.
Thank you so much for your
We love you
With much love
Mom & Dad
Thanks for sharing this to us Michael! Means a lot!
Thanks Shira. I have a feeling you will like it. Have a great day. !!!
What a nice share, Micheal.
Right, now I am always chiding my youngest to hurry up and get rich, so I can quit worrying about it. He, on the other hand, is constantly reminding me I have to be nice to him because he’ll be choosing my nursing home. LOL. It’s great to have kids … what a feeling of security. 😉 … on a serious note, this note reminds me of the song by Harry Chapin … “Cats in the cradle”.
Hi Orples, Thanks for sharing your thoughts and the “Cats In The Cradle” with us. So nice. Have a great day ahead. !!!
You do the same Micheal. Thanks for posting. Your post brought a tear to my eye.
LOL ……….. I had the same feeling when I first read this. Then, whenever I read it, it made me think ……. thinking deeply??? Orples, it’s always a good feeling with you around. Blessings. !!!
Thank you, Michael. What a sweet thing to say. Right back at ya’. 🙂

Something we all need to remember! Thanks for sharing this!
Hi, Thanks for visiting and commenting April. Have a grest day and Blessingd.!!!
This is a reminder that we will one day all age and will need that loving tender care and love as we needed when we were babies. It is amazing that we come into this world, as a newborns needing 24hr care and when we age we go back to children like mind frame of needing that care all over again. I am reminded that we are and will always be children to Christ!
Thanks for sharing! Blessings to you.
Very well said my friend. Have a great day and God Bless.
I think I’d like to save a copy to hand to my sons one day…:)
LOL ….. Please do so Jeannie. Have a great day – fill with peace, love, bliss and so forth. Regards.!!!

Michael’s post was so touching. I cannot tell you how much this means to me. I think about this all the time when I think about my aging parents, when I think about the clients I work with, and when I think about my own aging and the likelihood of someone other than family caregiving for me when I am aged…. I hope we all keep these sentiments in mind as we care….
Hi Jennifer, Thanks for doing the wonderful job of reblogging “A Letter From Mom & Dad.” And more importantly validating it with your kind and loving thoughts. Take good care of your self and Namaste.
This is so lovely. I am dealing with an ageing parent right now and it was a perfect reminder. I love my mom so much and hate to see her getting older but I need to remind myself that she is still the sweet, loving wonderful person she always has been. Thank for visiting and liking my blog Michael.
Nice to hear from you Darlene. Delighted to note your feelings on, “A Letter From Mom & Dad.” Have a wonderful Friday and as always, my best wishes in all your future undertakings.!!!
This is akin to the timeless communication of a father to his son.
” Hold my hand as I once held yours.”
Cheers
Shakti
Thanks Shakti.
I need to carve out time for my mom. What a huge reminder.
Very well said. Happy Friday.!!!
Very true! When I was young I remember getting impatient with my granny because of some stuff she did. I am sure she got yelled at a few times from her children too. But as I grew older I realised that she didn’t do it just to spite me or others. She was growing old and became forgetful and sloppy because she couldn’t see that well anymore. It is important to keep in mind that the handicaps of age would catch up with us someday. No matter how much exercise we do or healthy food we eat. When that time comes, we would be grateful to our loved ones for being understanding. We can ensure this behaviour by being role models. The way we take care of our elderly, would show our children how they should treat us when we grow old. As it says in the Matthew 7:12, “Therefore all things whatsoever you would that men should do to you, do you even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.” Simple law and still holds true today. Thank you for sharing this with us. 🙂 I will reblog this post. Wish you a great weekend! Cheers!
Thank You Irene for sharing an experience with us. Have a great weekend and Cheers. !!!

Hi Logan, I agree with you. It pricks then jolts the mind to think – reflect and then pose us a question, “What are the areas we can effectively build on ……………. from today?” Have a great weekend my friend.
This close to home for me. My Mom has cancer. She refuses food. I pray that she feels the love of her family…
Thanks for sharing my friend. I too had an Auntie who had cancer. She was unable to eat and suffered in pain before she was called home. But, i think she was conscious and feel the love from her loved ones. Best Regards and have a great weekend.!!!

Thanks..have a nice weekend
You too NL. !!!
Yes, this is touching in a culture where we value youth to the exclusion of our elders. Especially. And we’re not getting any younger, any of us!
Thanks for the sweet post.
I agree Bela. You have a valid point there. Based on the feedback received thus far, my observation is it is very well recieved by those in the younger age group as well. Happy Sunday Bela and to all at home.!!!
Same to you Michael. And I’m happy to hear you got such positive feedback from younger folks! It’s important to be open to the wisdom of our elders, for sure. And to help those in need, no matter who they might be. Take care.
Thank Bela. You take care too. While looking forward to hear from you in the not too distant future, have another great week Bela.!!!
It is a beautiful and sincere letter… 😉
Effectively, I think it created awareness with a tinge of empathy. Have a loving weekend to you and yours. Regards.!!!
Same to you! 😉

It’s a beautiful letter Michael. Reminds me of Karma-what you give to others comes back to you. Thanks for sharing!

It is very moving and very real…like the little child’s book called, “I love you so much”. In the end it is the son holding the mother on his lap in the rocking chair. Beauty at its best….
Thanks. i would like to check out this book here. Regards !!!
Thank you Michael for sharing this…it was very touching. God Bless you! 🙂
