So What Do You Value?

Honesty, Openness and Trustworthiness are building blocks that opens up a world of opportunities for us to grow our lives ……….

Being honest is the ability to tell the truth day after day. Not just when it is easy. But, when it is difficult as well. Honesty is also closely associated with character and integrity. It could be complex though. Imagine, living an honest life is the prospect of facing the consequences of our actions.

Openness breaks down barriers and builds trust at the same time. Openness is our attitude or opinion, as in receptivity to ideas, behaviors, cultures, people, environment and so forth. Ii is linked with our degree of acceptance, broad-mindedness, impartiality, responsiveness, tolerance and understanding.

Trust is the feel that a person is reliable, will not fabricate lies, cheat or steal from us.  Someone we can count on to do something important, will not shirk from duties as he or she promised. Who takes a personal pride in whatever he or she does. In a nutshell, we are confident in our expectation that, the person will walk the talk and deliver what he or she has pledged to do. With the absence of trust present in all our daily engagement or business activities and so forth, consequently, this will lead us to live with doubt, suspicion and fear – the fear of something negative may happen. Don’t you think this is unhealthy living?

Being honest, open and having the ability to secure trust are important. Say, if we want to engage in a positive relationship – personal relationship or business dealing with others. Without these building blocks in place, relationships can tumble or become dysfunctional. Because these building blocks is the backbone of any effort we set out to do and achieve results.

I believe people will admire or appreciate and choose to associate with those who have qualities such as; Honesty, Openness and Trustworthiness. They earn a greater sense of respect from us. You see, you can change the image you have of yourself. If you quit making excuses. Put these building blocks in place and work on it ………. If you feel good, do more of it. Honesty, Openness and Trustworthiness transmits very strong positive vibrations that will strengthen or reinforced our connection with others. At the same time, empowering us being more ………

Thanks for the comment Vighnesh. H.O.T. is applicable in businesses too. Establishing Honesty with customers, Open to feedback and building Trust to have a sustainable revenue base for instance, are important for any corporate. Regards !!!

Oh wow! I could NOT agree with you more. Honesty is something I value above just about anything. I absolutely hate lies and deception. I’m honest, and truthfully, sometimes that gets me into hurtful situations. But I’m not about to live my life any differently. 🙂 Thank you for sharing your thoughts!

This is very true, Michael. However, I’ve found sometimes, even if you carry these traits, it might be wise not to flaunt them. I’ve had plenty of people mistake being benevolent and honest, for being stupid. Sometimes, it is wise to just walk away, and save your attributes for those that are truly deserving of your time, attention, and business(if applicable).

    • Michael says:

Very well said Orples. To the truly deserving. Have a pleasant evening and another great month ahead. Regards !!!

You too, Michael. I am sure as sweet as you are, you know exactly what I mean. Some people, with no ethics, love to play honest people for the fool … been there, done that … and now, I tend to be skeptical. Too bad, we can’t all simply live by the golden rule, isn’t it? I hope April turns out to be a lovely month for you as well, Michael.

I am able to relate to what you have just mentioned. I guess most people have been there. You are amazing, kind and very thoughtful. Hope you are doing fine and your dreams (books) on the way !!!

I’ve been there too, Orples, and sometimes feel despair and disappointment, but don’t let that/them stop you from being who you are and what you do! 🙂

Have a great week Nat !!!

            • Nat says:

Thank You, Michael!! You have a wonderful week too! Thank you for inspiring us with your words, wisdom and thoughts along the way. And I’m sure that many of us whom after reading, have left leaving with a part of that wisdom and inspiration. 🙂 Looking forward to your next post and posts! 🙂

I don’t let the bad ones get me down. I do pay attention though, when I get that red flag feeling. I watch how people treat other people. People tell you who they are through their actions, if you keep an eye out. Thanks for your concern, though, Nat. At this point, I’ve been around the block a few times, so have learned to pay attention, and react accordingly. 🙂 I avoid trouble where ever I can, so usually avoidance is the method I use in self-defense, when necessary. It is sad that we have to be wary around others at times.

            • Michael says:

You are right Orples. Experience and lessons shape our attitude. Stay true to your path my friend and God Bless.

              • orples says:

You too, Michael and thank you. 😉

              • Nat says:

I agree, it can be pretty sad and trying at times when that happens and I know the feeling of having to build walls around yourselfin order to protect yourself. But I guess, from past experiences, it could be because sometimes people feel like they can’t let their guard down maybe because they’re afraid or insecure or intimidated. Hence, when we try to open up and put ourselves out there, they’re more likely to let their guard down too, because we made the first step to open up and put ourselves out there. That would probably ease up the tension and everyone could be comfortable around each other and in their own skin, to be themselves. Once we’re in a relaxed setting. And hopefully break away from the doubts, motive and hidden agendas. It takes time but I always believe that as long as we keep giving our best, and as long as the sun keeps shining,it will eventually be able to melt down any block of ice and warm their hearts. I guess the dreamer or idealist part of me would like to believe that hope is what gives us the strength to believe and to go on! 🙂 Don’t give up, Orples! 🙂

Thank you for sharing this, Michael! I really enjoyed reading this post! 🙂 I agree and believe that it takes trust, honesty and openness for any form of relationship to work and last. They’re the basis of what makes relationships meaningful and connects people and hearts. 🙂

Have a splendid day and week ahead! 🙂

This question always running in my mind!
Would you still be honest, tell the truth when you know it ruins everything?
For an instance, in my experience, mostly… my friends, people around me always make a joke..even they make other(s) a clown….often, it makes everyone laughs…. tho sometimes…it is too much! Joke can’t be always fun especially if its more personal!
My friend asked me if that thought points at her. She got a feeling that she is tho she asked to confirm it. (Believe me or not, I can’t stand to lie!) I doubt to answer honestly cos I know what will happen BUT my mouth utter YES! Which is the truth! And she was SO pissed off! After we arrived in our classroom, she confronted the others and there’s a clash happened!

I know the truth will set you free! But some times, truth haunts you!

I can relate to your situation – delicate. Perhaps, exercise more tact the next time. Have a beautiful day and Blessings !!!

  8. very beautiful post. i believe in honesty, but i believe in remembering its consequences too

  9. Coach Sue says:

Honesty “they” say is the best policy.” Truth is what I seek. I know what to do with truth. What do you do with honesty? Throughout my life, I have been accused of being too honest because I get down to the nitty gritty sometimes. TMI. So I’ve tweaked my thoughts and seek truth instead. I deliver truth instead and that is what is really important in my so humble opinion : ) Here’s an example of what I mean when I talk about truth.http://couragetoadventurecoaching.wordpress.com/2010/05/20/truth-or-consequences/

Thanks for sharing your insight with us. I will definitely check out your link. I reckon Honesty is acceptable to every one. But going into the nitty gritty, this becomes ‘detailed.’ This may not be necessary. Truth is important. But, truth is what one’s mind perceive as truth. So “truth” varies here. You have a pleasant evening Coach Sue. Regards !!!

So what do you value? this is very powerful questions that lead me to reflect, I always want people around me to be honest no matter I get hurt as long as your telling the truth, but sometimes being too honest will put you into trouble, so I guess everything needs to put with balance.

  11. I have nominated you for 5 awards, check my blog to see what to do 🙂 Here is the link: http://autumn-sunshine.net/blogs/?p=1289&preview=true&preview_id=1289&preview_nonce=a0d9b951fc

Good post, and thought-provoking. Trust is sometimes demanded in relationships without being earned.

  13. Kourtney Heintz says:

Great post! Honesty is integral in all my relationships. If I cannot believe what someone says I cannot believe in them.

  14. Good points, Michael – all well taken. I used to despair of ever having good enough radar to seek out others with my own personal standards of integrity. But life and time has shown me that what I give out, I mostly get back. And that’s good enough for me.
    Blessings to you.

I really enjoyed this post. Honesty has got to be the most important yet most often lost trait. If you are lucky enough to have an honest person/people in your life, that’s something never to be taken for granted.
